This set contains Matariki, Te Kokotā and Te Hao o Rua which are all connected to Te Waka O Rangi.
The constellation Te Waka o Rangi depicts a cosmic waka (canoe) steered and captained by the star known as Taramainuku, with Matariki positioned at the bow. Nightly, when this constellation adorns the sky, Taramainuku casts his expansive net to gather the spirits of the departed. For 11 months, Te Waka o Rangi travels with them across the celestial night sky until the constellation sets in May. In June Te Waka o Rangi returns, then Taramainuku casts his net once more, releasing the departed souls into their cosmic journey.
